An abstract artist who works with mixed media, Sangeeta was drawn to art at an early age. As her passion grew, she became completely devoted to the craft both as a practitioner and an educator.
She draws inspiration from her surroundings, her experiences and her memories, all of which flow onto her canvas culminating in rich bold colours and textures, that convey her emotions.
Sangeeta likes to work with different types of materials, and constantly experiments and explores new ideas. She has the propensity to use shapes and patterns that depict earth, in the form of prints and collage. Her technique, content and style has evolved over the years, yet the underlying character and vitality remains unchanged.
Over the past 20 years, she amassed a rich collection of paintings, sculptures and paper works that explore a variety of themes. As people from across the globe reached out to her, art helped to expand Sangeeta’s influence. She has held/participated in exhibitions in Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Malaysia, Mumbai and Bangalore, and is grateful to all those who have supported her efforts and appreciated her works.
In terms of her background, in addition to various courses in art and sculpting (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts), Sangeeta is a postgraduate in Life Science (M.Sc.), with a degree in education (B.Ed.). An accomplished educator she has been teaching art and science since the early 1990s, in schools in Singapore and India.
As an arts teacher, her goal is to inspire, to bring forth ideas, hone skills and develop creativity. More than merely teach techniques, Sangeeta aims to expand her student’s minds through art.
“My art practice addresses the idea of memory, identity and the perception of the world around me. I create art that is imagined from my mind’s visual diary of things, of memories and of experiences, that takes shape in my art making process. I search for cues, traces and patterns around me which give a visual language of expression to my thoughts.”
